Recently due to the latest strand of the Coronavirus “Omicron”, the government is requiring everyone coming to Japan from countries with Omicron cases to quarantine in a government designated hotel or facility for 3-10 days before completing the rest of their quarantine period at home. It is said to be chaotic, with people spending up to 13 hours after landing being processed – not nice after a long haul flight. Even worse, they have just announced these measures will extend to January too.
After your stint in the hotel is done, you will be returned to the airport and expected to make your own way home. The same rules as before still apply – no using public transport or walking, no friends picking you up, no domestic flights. You must take a private car (rental or a car with a driver), or one of the other available options. This article will go through the options.
From NARITA AIRPORT:
Quarantine shuttle bus
There is a quarantine shuttle bus running from Narita. It is free and runs once an hour between 9:05am and 11:15pm from terminal 1 and 2. It will take you to local Chiba hotels, not to Tokyo.
Keisei Skyliner
You can book a special car in the Skyliner for 4,500 yen per person (almost double the normal price). You must get off at Ueno Station and arrange private transportation from there. You may not walk from Ueno nor can you use a taxi or train. Private transport has to be arranged before buying the ticket.
Private pick up service
There are many companies offering their services to pick you up from the airport and take you to your house or hotel. It is expensive but easy and flexible. Some services are:
